Following the complain by European betting companies that actions against them from Washington are infringing world trade rules, the European Union has launched an investigation into US laws on Internet gambling.
The investigation could lead the 27-nation European Union to file a complaint at the World Trade Organisation. Internet gambling is a growing business, which is worth more than $15.5bn a year.
EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson hopes that the current dispute can be resolved amicably. He has said that, although the US has the right to address legitimate public policy concerns relating to Internet gambling, discrimination against EU companies cannot be part of the policy mix.
