Eircom has signed up its 500,000th broadband customer and announced plans to launch a 12Mbps DSL trial in November in Sandyford and across Dublin.
Customers are signing up for eircom’s DSL broadband internet service at a rate of approximately 3,000 per week. Eircom is Ireland’s largest telecommunications supplier.
The company aims to connect more than 900 exchanges, representing 96% of the working telephone lines in Ireland, within the next two years.
The company also expects to invest €30m to build another 400 exchanges across Ireland.
A 24Mbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service is also set to trial in Sandyford some time in 2016, and will be announced shortly. The FTTH and 12Mbps pilots will help eircom progress its plans to offer IPTV commercially in the Republic.
