Fulcrum Microsystems are to release a range of 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch/router chips, which will incorporate lossless fabric and security features, allowing equipment manufacturers ease of deployment.
The series will be called FM3000, and the series of switches will be showcased, alongside the Fulcrum Microsystems other ranges, at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas.
The transition to IP-Based networks, which tend to be able to allow increased server and storage, not to mention the ease of data service deployment, such as IPTV, by service providers, will eventually become the norm.
The lossless backplane fabric feature of the FocalPoint FM3000 series, allows a futuristic telecom switch or server chassis, perfect for consumers.
Features that set the FM3000 series aside from its competition include L2+ switches, 24 nonblocking 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) ports, shared memory, output-queued architecture, class-based pause, link-level flow control and congestion notification.
The FM3000 Series is perfect for its target market of customers, being an Ethernet-based telecommunications infrastructure, and enabling increasingly speedy deployment.
Customers include the likes of Next Generation Networks, who chose the FocalPoint FM3000 series for its FlexCore ATCA-FM40 base / fabric switch blade.
The new product range, the FM3000 series, aims to fill the gap in the market for Fulcrum Microsystems between current product ranges, the FM4000 L2/3/4 and the FM2000 L2.
