Local Councils

Babergh District Council is responsible for a number of local services including housing, planning, rubbish collection and leisure activities (a complete list can be found on the website, along with a list of district councillors).

St Edmundsbury Borough Council provides local services for those that live in Cavendish, Clare, Poslingford, Stansfield and Hawkedon. 

Suffolk County Council is responsible for services such as transport, social services and education across Suffolk .


Local Campaign Groups

Groton Pylon Alliance is a new conservation group that has been formed to represent the interests of a number of villages in south Suffolk with regard to National Grid’s proposals for a new line of pylons from Bramford to Twinstead.

Stop Stansted Expansion has been campaigning since 2002 to stop the expansion of Stansted airport and prevent the disruption of the quality of life in Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire.


Save Our Silence Action Group (SOSAG) is concerned about proposed changes to air traffic control areas in Suffolk and aims to preserve the tranquillity of rural areas.

Manningtree Rail Users Association represents all those who use Manningtree station and the services on the Harwich branch line.


Useful Voluntary Organisations

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) provides free, independent and confidential advice to anyone on subjects such as tax, benefits, housing, employment, education and discrimination. Information and advice can be delivered face-to-face, via telephone, email or online. 

Shelter supports and advises those who are homeless or are suffering from bad housing. Its websites provides information on a large range of issues including what to do when faced with rent arrears, eviction or repossession.


Parentline Plus offers support and advice to parents from other parents. It operates a telephone and text service, as well as providing information on various aspects of parenting.
