Netgear launches Wi-Fi networking solutions for 5GHz band

January 8, 2016

Netgear launched a variety of 802.11n Wi-Fi networking solutions for consumers, at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

The products are designed for bandwith-intensive applications such as VoIP, HD video streaming, and online gaming.

The devices use the less busy 5GHz band as well as the 2.4GHz band used by most consumer-oriented 802.11n routers. While the 2.4GHz band has three non-overlapping channels, the 5GHz band has 20.

Netgear’s next generation Wireless-N products feature metamaterial antennae technology, allowing up to eight aerials to be included inside each box.

The metamaterial antennae technology, which delivers faster speeds at longer ranges across the full 802.11 spectrum, is incorporated in all of Netgear’s next-generation RangeMax Wireless-N products. It compensates effectively for the reduced range from using the 5GHz band.

Netgear’s new offering includes:

• The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router (WNDR3300), which is designed to deliver the highest Wi-Fi performance available for Wireless-N notebooks and dual-band adapters.

• The RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500), which incorporates a five-port 10/100/1000 Mbps switch (one Gigabit Ethernet WAN and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports.

• The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter (WNDA3100), which enables users to upgrade their notebook or desktop PCs to dual-band Wireless-N.

• The Wireless-N MoCA Router (WNMR834), which allows users to simultaneously have a Wireless-N network infrastructure and use their existing in-home cable TV coaxial outlets.

Netgear has also launched a range of bridges and extenders to provide network connectivity for laptops, gaming consoles and media adapters without the need for Ethernet cables, together with new broadband modems and gateways and a range of network storage devices.

The products will be available around the world shortly.
