A new chip set, the CoAir™, which is Ultrawideband (UWB) and WiMedia™ based, and has wireless, coax and Ethernet capabilities, has been announced by Sigma Designs.
The new technology is the first of its kind in the industry, capable of processing multiple independent streams of video and data over coax cable, Ethernet cable and wirelessly, which will be essential for service providers, manufacturers and telcos.
The CoAir solution can produce data processing rates of 480 Mbps with UWB wireless, based on the WiMedia standard, and capable of data/video transfer using up to 480 Mbps for room to room communications
The Solution is an increased effort to increase the popularity of home networking and wireless communications, and make the process a lot easier, and more efficient.
The new solution from Sigma, incorporates a RF radio chip, which supports supports 3 antennas and base band chip, which integrates the OFDM PHY baseband, MAC.
As a whole the chipset allows input/output ports for antennas, coaxial cable and Ethernet cable (CAT5), and is fuelled by Transparent, Ubiquitous and Synchronous Cables & Air Network™.
CoAir is the latest development at the Sigma Designs R&D sector of the business, adding another efficient and powerful product to their extensive line up of products and solutions.
