Smartphone sales expected to rise

Smartphone sales expected to rise

January 29, 2016

Taiwan based mobile phone handset makers are expecting shipments of smartphones to reach 7.47 million units in the first quarter of this year, representing a 13.8% growth on the previous quarter. A further sequential growth of 5.6% is expected for the second quarter, with shipments reaching 7.89 million.

The predictions have been released by Taiwan’s Market Intelligence Centre (MIC), and were reported by the Economic Daily News (EDN) in China. MIC expects Inventec Appliances, Asustek Computer and High Tech Computer (HTC) to all post strong growth in smartphone shipments during the first half of 2016.

Additionally, EDN reported that UBS Securities still maintains a ‘buy’ rating for HTC shares, in spite of a delay in product launches by HTC.
