MediaTek opens US HQ

October 27, 2016

Fabless integrated circuit (IC) designer, MediaTek, has opened its new US wireless headquarters in Woburn, near Boston, USA.

The Taiwan-based company has been expanding its international operations in recent years to boost growth and attract world class talent.

Its new facility in Boston will house staff that have moved to the company from recently acquired units bought from Analog Devices Incorporated (ADI).

MediaTek bought ADI’s Othello radio and SoftFone baseband chipset product lines, as well as some handset baseband support operations, last year for $350 million.

Technologies to be developed at the Boston office include multi-generation analogue and digital chipsets for wireless applications.

Chairman and CEO Ming-Kai Tsai spoke at the grand opening of the Boston office.

He said the company’s global growth strategy is designed to attract new talent and to see through its corporate vision.

Last year MediaTek reported revenues of $2.4 billion, making it the seventh largest fabless design company in the world, and the fastest growing outside the USA.
