Sky Completes Switch to Provide Email via Google
It has taken several months to come about, nevertheless the Sky Broadband SMTP mail service has been terminated this week.
Consequentially if people have not updated the configuration for their email software they will be unable to send emails.
The Register quotes one reader who surmises that many people will get caught out and not have changed their software. Hitherto we have not encountered any posters on our forums urgently looking for help, but in case of emergency you can download the official Sky documentation for the changes.
The major adjustment to the SMTP server settings is that you should at this moment use smtp.tools.sky.com rather than smtp.sky.com, the TCP port used by the server is 465 as opposed to the standard port 25. Finally you must allow SSL authentication in your mail client.
