uSwitch expects dial-up to dwindle by 2018

November 26, 2015

A new report from price comparison site, uSwitch.com, suggests that dial-up connections will have virtually disappeared by 2018.

With the steady move to broadband expected to continue, uSwitch expects just 4 per cent of homes to still be on dial-up connections by the end of the decade.

The uptake of broadband is being driven by increasing speeds, greater availability and competitive price packages.

The uSwitch report supports earlier figures from the Office for National Statistics, which showed 88.4 per cent of UK internet connections are now broadband compared to 86.2 per cent in 2006.

uSwitch expects 21 million UK households to have an internet connection by 2018, and suggests that dial-up is unlikely to disappear completely because a small number of customers are likely to prefer it.
