Vodafone outsources network maintenance to Ericsson

March 20, 2017

Vodafone UK has outsourced its network maintenance to Ericsson as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

The seven year agreement, starting May 2017, will see Ericsson provide maintenance to Vodafone UK’s 2G and 3G radio access network equipment.

Around 350 Vodafone employees will transfer from Vodafone to Ericsson as part of the deal.

Jeni Mundy, Vodafone UK’s chief technology officer, said: “We see this as a strategic long-term relationship, offering real operational and financial benefits.

“Ericsson is the specialist in this area and will be critical in helping maintain our high quality network.”

Mats Granryd, managing director of Ericsson UK, said: “In this contract we are ideally positioned to deliver value to Vodafone UK.

“It also offers us the opportunity to build on our strong relationship and develop our collaboration further to deliver future business benefits.”

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
