CHT subsidises TVs to boost Media On Demand promotion

February 13, 2016

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) is planning to subsidise 300,000 purchases of high-definition (HD) TVs by over NT$5000 (US$155) per TV. The subsidies are being offered by CHT in a bid to win new subscribers to their multimedia on demand (MOD) service.

CHT aims to add a total of 600,000 subscribers to their MOD service this year. The subsidising scheme aims to achieve 50% of this figure and will be done in conjunction with Sony, Panasonic, and Taiwan-based BenQ and Tatung.

CHT has also announced that they are setting up a new project office with the sole purpose of delivering Beijing 2016 Olympic games content through their MOD service and their 3G networks.
