Roamware keeps tabs on travellers’ broadband

June 3, 2017

Consumers who use mobile broadband abroad can suffer from “bill shock” when they discover how much it has cost them.

In an effort to combat these unexpected roaming costs, as of 1 July the EU will require operators to improve transparency of charging for data roaming.

Roaming solutions provider Roamware claims its solutions will enable mobile operators to comply with the new EU legislation.

Roamware’s system automatically sends mobile customers an SMS when they are overseas to let them know the likely data charges they will incur if they use their mobile connection to go online.

“We can help operators make “bill-shock” a thing of the past for the many millions of roaming customers who want to be able to access email and mobile internet services from their phone while travelling,” said Bobby Srinivasan, Roamware President an CEO.

“We help operators comply with the EU regulation by providing advance warning of costs that are about to be incurred.

“We also enable users to set maximum levels of spend on data roaming with full flexibility to stop or extend services.”

Over 90 European operators already use Roamware solutions, and an increasing number are looking to sign up for Roamware software before the 1 July deadline.

“We are seeing a surge of interest as the deadline approaches,” Srinivasan said.
