Asustek to release Qualcomm based handsets

Asustek Computer will release its first Qualcomm-based 3G handset by the end of the year having started to work alongside Qualcomm on product development.

Qualcomm and Asustek recently signed a licensing agreement that allows Asustek to develop 3G handsets that utilise Qualcomm CDMA technologies.

Until now, Asustek has used platforms from Marvell and Ericsson Mobile (EMP). The new agreement with Qualcomm makes Asustek the first handset manufacturer in Taiwan to develop handsets using three different platforms.

Asustek’s current 3G handsets that use the Marvell platform include the M530w, the P550 and the P735. Its handsets that use EMP include the Z802, the V88i and the 750i.
