Acer predicts 2m netbook sales for Q3

September 5, 2016

Acer, the world’s third largest PC maker, expects its Aspire One netbook sales to hit one million units in September, bringing total third quarter sales up to two million.

Low-price coupled with high performance has been a key selling point for the Aspire One with some stores selling the 8GB Linux model for under £200.

Other netbooks with equivalent processing power cost much more; Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9.0, for example, costs almost £300.

In addition to targeting western markets with the Aspire One, Acer has been pushing sales in emerging markets such as India.

An updated version of the Aspire One with built in 3G connectivity is expected to be released later this year, with mobile operators signing up to subsidise the netbook alongside mobile broadband packages.

Consumers wanting to buy the 3G Acer One off the shelf can expect to pay around £50 more than the standard model.
