Home Gateway Initiative signs up Malaysian network

March 27, 2017

The Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) this week welcomed Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) as its latest member.

The Malaysia-based communications group – which offers nationwide broadband and fixed-line services – is the latest carrier to join HGI.

Duncan Bees, HGI’s chief technical officer, said: “We are delighted with the addition of TM – one of the most important carriers in Asia – to the HGI membership.

HGI uses its broad member base – spanning five continents – to establish worldwide interoperability specifications for access gateways, and to provide information to standardisation bodies.

Bees said that TM’s “input in identifying carrier needs in Asia, and the software and technology required to meet those needs, complements the skill and knowledge sets of HGI’s existing sixty-plus members.”

Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, TM’s CEO, said: “Becoming a member of the HGI allows us to contribute to, and benefit from, the significant body of research, expertise and use case scenarios that the group has produced, as well as enhancing our relationships with the industry’s top players in the home network space”

HGI was founded in 2004 by nine telecoms operators – Belgacom, BT, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, KPN, TeliaSonera, NTT, Telefonica and Telecom Italia.
