Protection for children using the Internet

Protection for children using the Internet

November 15, 2015

A game, designed for children aged seven to 10, has been launched by the Council of Europe at the UN Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janeiro. It is available on the Internet in English, with 12 other European languages to follow.

The purpose of the game is to warn children of the dangers lurking on the Internet, and to teach them how to stay away from harm. Called Wild Web Woods, the game uses familiar fairy tales to guide children through a maze of potential dangers, so they can safely reach the magnificent “e-city.”

The UN forum set up to address cybercrime was attended by 47 nations and the Council of Europe considers the game will be a key step in its efforts to curb grooming of children by abusers through the Internet.
