TalkTalk will soon begin a test of fibre optic technology that will allow users in Muswell Hill in London, and Whitchurh in Cardiff, to access download speeds that total up to 40mbps.
The areas are part of BT’s Openreach service and participated in a fibre trial back in October of 2016.
This year there will be about 30,000 households participating, all which will receive a free broadband package for the trial, a free new modem and router, and unlimited downloads.
The fibre optic trial will last from now until the start of 2018, at which point TalkTalk will look over the results and decide if it would be favourable to expand fibre optic offerings to its entire customer base, which spread across over 80% of UK regions.
Upload speeds are also expected to increase during the fibre optic trial and may very well pass 5-10mbps.
In other news, TalkTalk also announced last week that it will sponsor the X Factor, a prime time broadcast entertainment show that highlights talent.
Marketing director at TalkTalk, Olivia Streatfeild said that the company cannot wait to offer the X Factor to the company’s four million customers over the mobile broadband network.
