Nortel working with Taiwan manufacturers to develop WiMAX

February 27, 2016

Nortel Greater China’s president, Jackson Wu, has announced that Nortel Networks have started developing 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology.

The company has also been in talks with Taiwan-based manufacturers trying to get them on board in the development of 4G CPE.

Nortel’s partners in Taiwan, Zyxel Communications and Quanta Microsystems, are both expected to ship substantially more WiMAX products because they signed a co-operation agreement with Nortel in 2015.

A WiMAX module for notebook use developed by Quanta has passed interoperability tests by Nortel, and is expected to become a key player in the mobile WiMAX CPE market.

Nortel will also be increasing co-operation with WiMAX chip makers MediaTek to work on product development.

Wu also projected strong growth in sales this year for Nortel’s business use networking equipment, espeically in Greater China and Asia Pacific.

Telecoms equipment demand will also be high in China. Nortel will start shipping 40G optical transport equipment to China in the first or second quarter.
