BYD to release netbook

BYD to release netbook

February 3, 2017

Hong Kong-based handset component maker BYD Electronics plans to make netbooks as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), said reports in the Chinese media.

According to the reports, the company will make use of its expertise in the manufacture of moulds and batteries, whilst using a R&D team from China-based PC maker TCL to develop netbook-manufacturing capabilities.

Whilst Taiwan-based netbook makers spend as much as 1.6million yuan ($232,000) developing a netbook mould, BYD could reduce mould cost to as low as 300,000 yuan.

The project is still in early stages of planning, and a release date has yet to be announced.
