CHT chooses Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson for network upgrade

February 10, 2017

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected to deploy Taiwan’s first ever advanced optical multi-service network on behalf of Chunghwa Telecom (CHT).

The project is part of CHT’s five year plan to roll-out a next-generation network (NGN).

The optical network will be fully installed by mid-2017.

It will enable CHT to enhance the reliability, performance, flexibility and scalability of its core transport network, improving network efficiency.

Larry Chai, President of Alcatel-Lucent in Taiwan, said: “Exemplifying a 30 year-long collaboration with Chunghwa Telecom, this win further asserts the innovative value of our solutions.”

Meanwhile, Ericsson has been chosen by CHT to deploy a metro aggregation network that will enable high capacity broadband services including IPTV and e-health, for both fixed and mobile access.

The contract is worth an estimated $30 million over the next three years.

CHT plans to have 30Mbps broadband with 80% coverage by 2011 – and Ericsson’s Marconi Optical Multi-Service (OMS) technology will be key to CHT achieving this goal.

Ericsson Taiwan president, Stefan Johansson, said: “We are happy that CHT has selected Ericsson’s innovative solutions to grow with its business and this further cement the partnership between the two companies.”
