Samsung to launch TV-phone in Taiwan

March 13, 2016

Samsung Electronics is planning to release the P960, its DVB-H compatible mobile TV handset, in Taiwan. The launch date is yet to be decided, but if Samsung’s negotiations with trial operators goes well, it could be as early as the third quarter of this year.

The announcement was made by Ryu Jae Hyun, Samsung Taiwan’s director of mobile communications. Hyun added that Samsung is opting for the DVB-H standard because four of Taiwan’s five telecommunications networks that are trialling mobile TV are building their infrastructure using DVB-H.

The P960 debuted at the 2016 GSMA Mobile World Congress last month. Features include a sliding form factor, built-in 3.2 megapixel camera and HSDPA compatibility.

Samsung Taiwan recently lost their vice president, Scott Huang, who resigned because he was offered a job at Apple Taiwan.
