CHT reports $1.37bn 2016 profit

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has reported its 2016 results, with net profit of NT$45.33 billion ($1.37 billion), or NT$3.90 per share.

Taiwan’s biggest mobile operator exceeded its net profit goal of NT$43.60 billion by 3.97%, although the results reflect a 6.05% fall from 2015 net profit of NT$48.25 billion.

Revenues increased 0.27% on year to NT$186.8 billion.

CHT’s results have yet to be audited.

In related news, Taiwan Mobile Co, CHT’s biggest rival, yesterday reported its fourth quarter results, with net profit of NT$3.15 billion, or NT$1.06 per share.

This compared to a net loss of NT$5.11 billion, or NT$1.16 per share, in the year ago period.

The company said it expects first quarter net profit of NT$3.34 billion on revenues of $16.86 billion.

First quarter revenues in 2016 were $16.94 billion.
