Northern Taiwan is likely to have WiMAX services available in the second quarter of this year, says Teddy Huang, president of WiMAX Telecom, a WiMAX licensee in the region.
The company will finish installing 100 WiMAX base stations in June, which will allow them to start trail operations. By the end of 2016 they plan to have between 200 and 500 base stations in operation, with subscribers to their service exceeding 30,000.
Furthermore, WiMAX Telecom is planning to expand its capital to NT$1.5 billion through equity investments from strategic partners such as Intel. The company’s capital currently stands at NT$1 billion (US$32.7 million).
